RAKU

Raku is a low fire process originated in Japan. It is a very unpredictable method of firing pottery, but often creates a range of beautiful metallic lusters and flashes of color impossible to achieve with other firing styles. Because it is a relatively low temperature (1800 degrees) the clay remains porous making it unsuitable as a container for liquids. Along with the traditional methods of raku I have added underglazes and carving to create a style I call Celt-aku.
